This Term, year 7 students have been looking at Chemistry, the differences between a mixture and a pure substance, and different techniques for separating mixtures, such as distillation and filtration. They will also have the opportunity to delve into our Earth & Space unit, looking at lunar cycles and earth’s rotation. Students will have an assessment at the close of the unit towards week 7. |

This term Year 7 students are learning about Food, Nutrition and Healthy Options in Health lessons. They are looking at the Healthy Eating Plate, discovering how nutrients can help our body, how to make healthy decisions about what they eat and what can influence our food choices. To wrap up this unit students will work on an assessment task where they research and create a family meal plan. In PE we have been running a range of courses and workouts to improve our cardiovascular fitness and endurance in preparation for the School Cross Country Carnival. These have included runs like team spoke, 4/2/1, individual timed, relays and beep tests. Students have given themselves a rating out of 5 after each run as a self-assessment. Staff have also assessed students based on their results and effort for each lesson. |

This term Year 7 are focused on learning to introduce themselves in Japanese with topics including name, age, nationality, school grade and things they like. This introduction is assessed verbally in front of their class, along with their written script in Japanese. There continues to be a focus on recognition and use of hiragana, building recognition of some kanji and introduction of katakana related to their self-introduction. |

This term we are focussing on World War 1. We will have short tasks based around the causes of the war, recruitment posters and reasons for enlisting, we will read fiction and non-fiction and explore the conscription debate. At the end of each week, students will load their completed task onto Canvas. It is important that students catch up on any missed work due to absence – all our learning materials are loaded on Canvas, and this is where students submit their completed tasks and receive feedback on their learning from the teacher. Parents have access and can follow their child’s learning. |

This term students have been focussing on navigation and mapping skills. Working in small groups, students have developed their ability to use a compass and map as well as GPS units in order to find bearings and various locations in the local community and further afield. Assessment will be ongoing, based on class involvement and the ability follow set processes in order to find specified locations. Students will then be working through a First Aid unit focussing on basic techniques to treat medical emergencies in remote areas. Assessment will be practical where students will assess and treat various first aid scenarios. |
